We are the lead actors in our own movies of our lives – I know, an old cliché, but like most cliché’s that have stuck around for a long time, there’s a shit load of truth to them. You are the star, the protagonist, and everyone in your world is your supporting cast, yes, even your precious oneitis. She may share the marquee with you, but it’s your goddamn name that comes first. Only movies without men as a lead don’t have a man’s name come first on a billing. The point is, you are the one that is leading the movie, the story you progress the plot of your life, scenes, actions – not the supporting cast. The supporting characters, even when giving a stellar performance and stealing a scene, is still only able to do so while playing off of the lead character, which is again you. I am of course referring to what the pua-sphere refers to as ‘frame’. Do you remember watching a movie, one where you are following along joyfully, enjoying the ride, engrossed in the characters, only to be ripped out of said enjoyment when the lead character does something completely not in tune with his character thus far? You no doubt do, maybe not a specific case, but you know what I’m talking about, you even diagnose this as bad writing or bad acting. But why? This happens all the time in life. We all do things outside of our character all the time. Why does this act of normalcy in the real world bug us so much when we see it in a film, or play? Why? Why? Because of incongruencies.

Incongruencies Break Trust and Frame

We cannot accept incongruencies in others, our supporting cast, and any character in a book, play, movie, must behave according to their previously set up character – for them to act out of character is a shock to our senses, it’s an affront on our sensibilities, but mostly, a breaking of a trust or belief in what you thought this person/character was really like. Girls of course are all over the map, so by nature they’re congruent in being incongruent, for them to be congruent according to a man, would be a shock and would most likely be met with a distrustful watching eye. For girls, when they see a man that is incongruent, it’s a flat out disappointment in her. You’re incongruencies spell certain death for you and your precious little heart. When you act out of the character she sees or is presented with, she will get jolted out of the movie that is about you. Once that happens the suspension of disbelief in you as the man she can love, has been lost, never to return. The only incongruencies we seem to put up with, is the ones within ourselves. Some single men let the beta overwhelm them, sneak into inauspicious moments, sabotage their attempts to seduce, and give away a character in flux. When you hear people say a man should have confidence, know what he wants, yadda yadda yadda, they are talking about a man who’s character is so defined that he never breaks it. If you were a lead actor taking a part, you would work tirelessly to adopt all the behaviours and attributes of this character, and you would strive to be in this character. But some men can’t do this with themselves.

Owning Your Character and Frame

If you can fully grasp and be confident, comfortable, proud, and somewhat egocentric about you as in, your character, who you are, then you don’t need to ever worry about re-framing when you are with a girl. You will do so naturally. If a girl starts to drag you into her frame, where she leads, you will naturally reject this frame as it would be incongruent for your character to not do so. If you are struggling with framing and losing frame, try to think of the girl as just a character in your movie, remember, the scene is about you, not her, you will go where you want, she can either go to the next scene, or stay in the previous one forever. Never let the actress in a scene awe you. She may steal a scene or two, but you are the star, you are the lead, you are in control, and the movie is about you. Not her. Just remember, there’s no cutting room floor in life. Stay congruent, make every action in the frame of the character that you are portraying about that character. We all put on a certain character when we leave our house, but what I’m telling you is, to be that character all the time. Be you. If you think your movie sucks, then you suck. Change it. It’s your damn movie.
