On an unrelated note…If you are an avid bibliophile and need a system for dealing with the compulsion and the literally thousands of book purchases that may result, I’d also recommend an old work by Mortimer Adler of “the Great Books” fame. Adler wrote a book literally called “How to Read a Book” that illustrates an effective and disciplined approach (IMHO) for dealing with the information overflow that comes with lifelong pursuit of a classical education and the massive library that attends this.
Additionally, Adler’s “How to Speak, How to Listen” is up there with Carnegie’s famous work on productive and dignified interpersonal skills, and perhaps these types of readings should become more important, at least among the more civilized and elegant enclaves of our society. That used to be what a gentleman was supposed to do—his skillset made those in the bubble around him feel more comfortable, as if he was always hosting a party as he walked through the world.
